This section has still to be written, however H.E.M. Newman has covered it pretty well himself in his memoirs. Reference to some of his exploits in 1937 also appear in "The Indian Sappers and Miners" by Lieut.-Colonel E.W.C. Sandes D.S.O., M.C., R.E. (Ret.) published by The Institution of Royal Engineers, Chatham, 1948, pages 662 to 666.
.Below is a copy of a certificate to the effect that Maj. H.E.M. Newman was "mentioned in dispatches" in April 1939, but as yet I don't know what this was for.
